Voice Report
After a start dominated by heavy surf conditions, the cream came to the top at the MyWayLife Durban Ultra Triathlon as XTRA World Champion Bradley Weiss stamped his authority on the race. Dave Macleod has more.

The organisers cut the surf swim from 1,9 kilomtres to 750 metres to safeguard the athletes, and cancelled the swim altogether for the shorter sprint event. With the Ultra doubling as the SA champs for 2018, Weiss took charge early on in the 90km bike leg, and with James Cunnama lurking in second, he couldn'r relax. Instead he upped the tempo and ground further away on the 21km run to win by ten minutes from Cunnama. Third looked to be the hands of Ryan Schmidz until he faded late in the race to let a storming Phillip Sassie onto the podium. The women's race and the SA title fell to Annah Watkinson, but only after she composed herself after a scare on the swim leg. she got dumped coming in through the huge surf, but once on the bike she took a stranglehold on the womens race to win by almost ten minutes from jade Roberts.
