Dolphins feel the heat in Bloem

Bloemfontein - Day Two of the Sunfoil Series clash with the VKB Knights at a hot Mangaung Oval turned into a battle of attrition for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins as they were bundled out for 237 in reply to the hosts 478, and forced to follow on.

By the time stumps were drawn, the Dolphins openers Morne van Wyk and Sarel Erwee had chiselled away nine runs of that deficit, leaving them trailing by 232 runs with all ten second innings wickets in hand.

The home side resumed on 400/6 and managed to add 72 more runs for the loss of the last four wickets.

Spinners Keshav Maharaj and Senuren Muthusamy wrapped up the Knights tail, with Maharaj taking five for 128 when he had Shadley van Schalkwyk caught behind by Dane Vilas to end their innings.

In reply the hosts' seamers had the Dolphins in early trouble, reeling at 36/3 before Muthusamy anchored a stubborn fight back by the Dolphins.

Muthusamy and Sibz Makhanya added a fifty partnership for the fourth wicket to wrest control from the Knights quick bowlers.

Keshav Maharaj offered some solid support as well, but it was a robust seventh wicket partnership of 95 with Robbie Frylinck that elbowed the visitors back into the match.

Muthusamy fell just five runs short of his century, trapped in front by Eddie Leie, while the pugnacious Frylinck went on to score a typically positive 57 off 65 balls.

When Van Wyk and Erwee return to the crease sizing up the 232 run deficit, they will know that it will take plenty of patience and guile to force this contest deep into the fourth day. But as Van Wyk knows, there are big runs to be had at the Manguang Oval to a batsman in form.
