Dolphins dig in in Bloemfontein
Durban - Facing a target of 472 to win their 4-Day Domestic Series match
against the VKB Knights in Bloemfontein, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins
showed plenty of determination as they set about their second innings at
the Mangaung Oval.
After losing opener Grant Roelofsen cheaply, S.J. Erwee and Keegan
Petersen posted a defiant second wicket partnership, before Petersen
fell for 48, playing on seamer Patrick Kruger.
That brought skipper Marques Ackerman to the crease as Erwee went to his
half century, and the pair settled in together to try and see out the
rest of the final session together.
They walked off at stumps with Erwee on 58 and Ackerman on 32, having
taken the Dolphins second innings to 138/2, needing a further 333 runs
Earlier in the day, the home side resumed their second innings on 21
without loss with a lead of 262 runs.
It was a productive first session for the hosts as they added 85 runs to
their total in the session up to lunch for the loss of just two wickets.
Young Lifa Ntzanzi picked up one of the wickets and Keshav Maharaj
produced a top drawer delivery to knock over first innings centurion
Rynardt van Tonder.
The post lunch session was another positive one for the Knights who
continued to build their lead over the Dolphins.
They lost just two further wickets for the addition of 102 runs with
both wickets going to the Dolphins left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy.
Ultimately the Knights declared on 208 for four, giving them an
effective lead of 471 runs.
The Dolphins had to negotiate a tricky period up to tea and the Knights
struck when Grant Roelofsen was caught at fine leg for a duck.
The Dolphins went into tea on 12 for one, requiring 459 runs to win the
