Dolphins hampered by bad light at Kingsmead

Durban - Bad light hampered the Hollywoodbets Dolphins in their 4 Day Domestic Series clash with the Six Gun Grill Cobras on Tuesday as the players were forced off the field before 3pm on the second day.

The home side declared at 389/8 and the Capetonians reply was poised at 71/1 when the gloom over the city left the umpires with little choice but to take the players off the field.

Khaya Zondo anchored the Dolphins first innings with a chanceless, measured and patient century, his eighth in franchise cricket and his eleventh first class ton.

He found good support in Ruan de Swart who contributed 44 runs as the Dolphins strove to put themselves into a dominant position at the declaration, with the likelihood of bad weather affecting the match.

The Dolphins struck in the 14th over of the Cobras reply when skipper Marques Ackerman caught Isma-eel Gafielden with a brilliant reflex grab in the slips off the bowling of Prenelan Subrayen.

Pieter Malan and skipper Zubayr Hamza were cautious as the bad light forced the umpires to restrict the bowling attack to spin, and then finally send the players to the changerooms half an hour into the final session.

"I thought the guys applied themselves really well, when the conditions were not that easy to score freely ," said coach Imraan Khan.

"The guys showed good application," he added. "The whole batting unit contributed, topped off by a magnificent hundred from Khaya (Zondo).

"If we do get two full days of cricket in, we stand a very good chance in this game," he added.
