Dupavillon relishing the 4-day challenge
Durban – Following his match-winning performance in the 4-Day Domestic
Series on his return from injury, Hollywoodbets Dolphins speedster Daryn
Dupavillon is excited to contribute to the team’s cause as they prepare
for a tough encounter against the Multiply Titans starting on Sunday at
SuperSport Park.
Dupavillon returned franchise best figures of 7/38 in the first innings
against a strong VKB Knights side before picking up four wickets in the
second innings to complete a career best 11 for 104 as the Dolphins beat
the Knights by five wickets.
The Dolphins quick is using the performance to kick on for the rest of
the season as he tries to build on his Proteas debut last season.
“It was firstly great to be back on the park with the guys after missing
the first three games with a hamstring strain,” the 26 year-old said.
“With a lot of national cricket coming up I want to put my hand up and
be in the mix there so hopefully this was a step in the right direction
for any opportunities that might arise there.”
In the first innings against the Knights the visitors had no answer to
Dupavillon and the ball reverse swinging from the Umgeni End which
accounted for most of his victims in what was close to a match-winning
spell of bowling.
“I just decided that I was going to try and get the ball coming back
into them as much as possible and fortunately it went my way!
“We were lucky that the ball did start reversing quite early which was a
big help for me in that spell.”
The Dolphins now shift their focus to a clash with the Titans starting
on Sunday and with the recent ODI series against England cancelled
Dupavillon assumes that both sides might welcome back their Protea
contingents for the clash.
Given the depth of the Titans and now with Proteas potentially at their
disposal, it could be a difficult task but one that Dupavillon is
looking forward to.
“It looks like the Titans may be at full strength and so will we so it
will be nice to have our national players back if they are available.
“It’s always good to be able to lean on the experience of international
cricketers and it will mean a good headache for the selectors,” he
added.
Dupavillon has shared the fast bowling duties with young Lifa Ntanzi for
the first time in first class cricket and he is full of praise for the
tearway.
“Firstly it’s been awesome to have another gas-man in the attack and
what’s really impressed me is how quickly he is learning.
“He’s only played three first-class matches and if you look at how he
played in his first game to how he’s doing now you can see the steps
that he has taken forward.
“If he continues to learn at the pace he is learning he won’t be playing
franchise cricket for much longer there’s something bigger for him!”
Dupavillon added.
