Valiant Porteous ton not enough for Dolphins against Province

Cape Town - A maiden Hollywoodbets Dolphins hundred from Brad Porteous was not enough as the Dolphins went down to Six Gun Grill Western Province by four wickets in the CSA One Day Cup on Sunday at Six Gun Grill Newlands.

The Dolphins ended their innings on 226 for nine in their 50 overs with Porteous hitting 100 off 114 balls which included eleven fours and two sixes.

Eathan Bosch chipped in an important 45 at number eight as the Dolphins lower order added the majority of the runs.

It was a difficult start for the Dolphins who were six for the loss of three wickets inside the first four overs.

Jason Smith was on seven when he was bowled which left the Durban side and then Andile Phehlukwayo fell the next ball leaving the Dolphins on 24 for five.

42 runs later Ruan de Swart was trapped in front for an important 28 before Eathan Bosch joined Porteous at the crease.

The pair put together a critical 116 for the seventh wicket with Bosch eventually being bowled for 45.

Andile Simelane was dismissed nine runs later with the score on 188 in the 45th over.

Porteous was eventually fell trying to ramp one over the keeper and was well caught for 100.

The final wicket of Prenelan Subrayen and Thando Ntini added 25 to see the Dolphins set the home side 227 to win.

In reply Western Province went from 45 for one to 118 for two with Subrayen and Bosch picking up the first two wickets.

On 147 the Dolphins got their third wicket when Jon-Jon Smuts got this first wicket and then 19 runs later the Dolphins got a fourth with Porteous picking up his first wicket.

Simelane got the wicket of George Linde with Province 168 for five with ten overs to go in their chase.

Province left-hander Eddie Moore became Porteous' second victim on 94 with Province needing four runs to win with eight balls remaining.

The home side won the match in the final over with four wickets to spare.

The next fixture for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins is against the North-West Dragons on Sunday 11 December.
