Glenwood Prep stop #1 for Dolphins’ school campaign

Durban – The Sunfoil Dolphins spent Friday morning training and interacting with Glenwood Preparatory School’s pupils, kick starting a campaign aimed at taking the KZN franchise’s stars to youngsters in and around Durban.

“It was fantastic to see how our guys interacted with the Glenwood Prep children, how they used their initiative throughout the morning and the way they conducted themselves – they were really up for this morning’s school visit,” remarked head coach Grant Morgan afterwards.

The Glenwood Prep visit formed leg one of a six to eight visit programme to be rolled out throughout the 2016/17 season, with the opening visit being one the players and Morgan enjoyed and valued immensely.

“We’ve made a pledge to try make a difference in the lives’ of those in our communities – especially the kids – and to take ourselves to the people, without expecting anything back in return.

“It’s all well and good for us to ask people to come and support us at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead, but have earned their support?

“I feel these sorts of events are where we’re going to start winning our trophies.”

The day started with Morgan putting the likes of captain, Morné van Wyk, Khaya Zondo, Craig Alexander, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Divan van Wyk, Mthokozisi Shezi, Prenelan Surbayen, Rabian Engelbrecht and Brandon Scullard through their paces with drills both on Glenwood Preparatory’s main field and in the cricket nets.

The Dolphins players then took some time out to chat to the children and complete fielding drills side-by-side with the young pupils before a memorable autograph opportunity rounded out proceedings.

“If the kids can connect with our players and start to realise that the people they usually only ever really see on TV or on the field are in fact real, then that’s going to accelerate their dreams of one day playing cricket for the Dolphins and make their goals far more obtainable,” said Morgan.
