Clares crowned Castle T20 champions

Durban – Clares Cricket Club were crowned the Castle Premier League T20 Cup champions on Sunday when they beat Hollywoodbets Crusaders by five wickets in the final at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

A Jason Wager 50 not out was the answer that Clares needed when they were asked to chase down 148 to win the match following two 35’s from Nick Pentz and Steven Thomson which got Crusaders to what was a defendable total.

Hussein Badat was the pick of the bowlers for Clares taking four for 22. In their reply Wagner provided the most impetus with the bat while former Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Proteas all-rounder Rob Frylinck was the pick of the Crusaders bowlers taking three for 22.

The win gives Clares a solid foundation heading into the regular 50-over Castle Premier Division league phase that begins after the conclusion of the T20 competition.

In the Castle KZN Women’s T20 final Hollywoodbets Chatsworth Sporting faced off against Chesterville in what proved to be a one-sided affair.

Bowling first Sporting dismissed Chesterville for just 33 in 18 overs with Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Women’s all-rounder Jade de Figuredo taking five for two runs to rip through the Chesterville batting line-up.

Then in reply it took Sporting just ten balls to chase down the 34 required to win with Nadine Moodley scoring sixteen as the side from Chatsworth romped home to a ten wicket win.

In the Castle KZN Promotion T20 final Harlequins took on Newlands and it was the latter who got the better of their opponents winning the match by four wickets to claim the crown in what was a match to savour.

Quins batted first and made a respectable 160 for eight in their 20 overs with Jason Niemand top scoring with 84 while Arslan Nazim took four for 30 in his spell.

The chase belonged to Asharudin Patel who made 97 not out coming in at number eight after his side was 19 for six. Incredibly a seventh wicket partnership of 144 saw them past the required total with two overs to spare and four wickets in the bank.

Quin’s Devlin Dolan tried his hardest to give his team a fighting chance by taking all six wickets to fall as he ended with figures of six for ten at the start of the innings but it wasn’t enough for the side from the Bluff.
