Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium to host Comrades Marathon finish
Durban – Following a seven-year absence, the 2023 Comrades Marathon will
return to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium when the iconic race finishes
at the famous stadium on Sunday, 11 June.
The Ultimate Human Race has had a recent relationship with the Moses
Mabhida Stadium but due to a conflict in events, as the stadium is
hosting the COSAFA Cup during June, the organisers have chosen Kingsmead
as their finish venue.
Durban’s famous cricket stadium is no stranger to hosting the finish of
the Comrades and has done so on many occasions previously and for CEO of
KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom, it’s a privilege to welcome the historic
race back to Kingsmead.
“We’re very proud to welcome the Comrades Marathon back to Hollywoodbets
Kingsmead Stadium,” Strydom said.
“The race is such an important event for the province of KwaZulu-Natal
and for us as a stadium to play a part in the day is special.”
“We wish everyone all the very best for the day and we will welcome
runners and spectators with traditional Kingsmead hospitality on the
day,” he added.
In a statement from the Comrades Marathon Association, race director
Rowyn James is excited to rekindle the relationship with Kingsmead but
appreciates all the support that the Moses Mabhida Stadium has given to
“Kingsmead Stadium is our preferred finish venue for this year’s Down
Run, as the venue is accustomed to hosting the Comrades Marathon and the
revised route should be an ease in transition for the runners,” James
“We would like to thank the team at MMS for partnering with CMA during
the 2018 and 2022 races and we look forward to hosting our athletes on
Sunday, 11 June.”
