Khumalo named in SA Schools Team

Durban - Following a successful Coca Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week in Johannesburg, KZN Inland’s Mondli Khumalo has been selected for the South African Schools team with KZN Coastals’ Khwezi Gumede and Matthew Montgomery in the SA Colts side.

Maritzburg College’s Khumalo recently represented South Africa during the Under 19 Triangular series against England and Namibia.

Khumalo took 11 wickets in the five games that Inland played across the formats.

Amateur Manager at KZN Inland Jason Sathiaseelan was full of praise for the youngster following his selection.

“Mondli Khumalo had an excellent week,” he said.

“He bowled with pace and precision and we are indeed proud of him. He is a quality fast bowler who is growing in leaps and bounds considering he is only in grade 10.”

Along with Khumalo, two other KZN crickets were selected for higher honours. Clifton College's Matthew Montgomery and Glenwood's Khwezi Gumede were both selected for the South African Colts team.

CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich congratulated the players who have been selected for higher honours.

“Well done to the players who have reached the pinnacle of school boy cricket in South Africa,” Strydom mentioned.

“It’s great to see players from KZN being chosen in the SA Schools and SA Colts sides and it bodes well for the future of cricket in KZN.”
