Interview - Hank McGregor
Hank McGregor holds the overnight lead after the first stage of the N3TC Drak Challenge canoe marathon in Underberg, managing to keep defending champion Andy Birkett at bay in the endsprint at the end of the 26 first stage.

Interview - Andy Birkett
Defending champ Andy Birkett was outsprinted at the stage finish by Hank McGregor, and said that they had tested one another regularly during the technical racing through the Valley of a Thousand Rapids. he told Nick Tatham that he relished racing hard against the eight time world champion.

Interview - Abby Solms
The women's race at the N3TC Drak Challenge is proving to be highly competitive, with six times champ Abby Solms just ahead of Olympic medallist Bridgitte Hartley at the end of the first stage. Solms told Nick Tatham that she was thriving on the competitive racing, and would have to change her race strategy to deal with the challenge from Hartley.

Interview - Bridgitte Hartley
Olympic star Bridgitte Hartley showed that her commitment to river racing in 2017 and dedicated homework on the uMzimkhulu course were paying off as she put consistent pressure on race leader Abby Solms on the first stage.
She told Nick Tatham that she was content with the way that the first leg had played itself out.
