Radio soundbites - FNB Dusi Canoe Marathon Day Three

Voice report
Andy Birkett and Lance Kime wrapped up an emphatic victory in the FNB Dusi to give Birkett his sixth title and Kime his second. Dave Macleod reports that the 36km final stage saw the mens and womens leaderboard shaken up....

Birkett and Kime started with 8 and 1/2 minutes in the bank, and racing on a medium level river in windy conditions they cautiously preserved that lead going into the Burma Road portage, while behind them Hank McGregor and Jasper Mocke were duelling with Sbonelo Khwela and Baneste Nkhoesa for the silver. Birkett and Kime put in and mastered the Pumphouse rapid, the last obstacle that could derail their bid. Behind them McGregor and Mocke got lost on the descent on Burma, allowing Khwela and Nkoesa to retake second place, albeit momentarily as this fired up the 2014 world champs to ground back into silver medal positions.
The womens race fell to Abby Solms - finally after six second places, and her Czech partner Anna Koziskova, who overcame the wind and illness to claim gold, with Tamika Haw and Alex Adie snatching silver in a three boat tussle.
