Tala continues to offer a unique MTB experience
Eston – As the ever-popular Illovo Eston MTB Challenge and Tala Fun Ride
approaches the staff at the Tala Collection Private Game Reserve are
preparing their trails for the big influx of social riders taking on the
STIHL Tala Fun Ride on Sunday 4 August.
Over the years the Tala Family Ride has established itself as the
signature race of the day and it appeals to young and old with the race
being 18km long makes it accessible for riders of all abilities and it
includes the added bonus of a game viewing experience.
“Riding through Tala you are almost guaranteed to see giraffe,
wildebeest, warthog, impala and eland,” Head of Department for Schools
and Activities at Tala Andrew Ingles said.
“Our rhino though will be in a different part of the reserve but it will
be an exciting 15km ride through the reserve.”
The Tala Game Reserve has opened its mountain biking tracks to anyone
that wants to come and ride them. Ingles hopes that through the Eston
MTB Challenge and the trail runs there will be an influx of riders and
runners on to the trails in the future.
“It is hugely important that we get as many runners and riders onto the
trails as possible and we feel that with such a unique offering the
trails don’t get used nearly enough.
“There is so much to do at Tala and we want people to come through and
get the whole experience. Bring your bikes or your running shoes and use
that as part of your experience.
“They can ride our tracks, relax and swim at our Rock Pools picnic area,
braai with their families, take a self-drive around the park, or have
lunch at one of our two restaurants,” he added enthusiastically.
With the runners tackling the tracks in the early morning and the riders
taking them on later in the day, there is a lot that Ingles wants them
to look forward to.
“We have four very unique single tracks, Puffadder Pass is winding and
slightly downhill, Acacia Climb is slow up and extremely fast down, with
a few serious bridges to experience.
“Our drainage line track takes you through a dry river bed which is fast
and winding, and then Stump Alley is a technical tunnel!”
The event has set aside 900 pairs of race branded socks for the first
900 people to enter either the 18km Family Ride, the 18km Trail Run or
the 9km Trail Run.
Normal entries close on 28 July.
