Dusi champ Lance Kime joins entry for Push And Pull Paddle

Paarl - With the majority of the limited number of entries in the innovative Bamboo Warehouse Push And Pull Paddle canoe marathon now accounted for, double Dusi winner Lance Kime has added his name to the entry list for the three day paddling event in the Western Cape winelands from 9 to 11 August.

The talented adventure racer, trail runner, mountain biker and paddler is excited to be part of the race as he is building his training base for an assault on the national K2 title at the upcoming Hansa Fish Marathon in September, but sees the Push And Pull Paddle as a ground-breaking canoeing event.

“It is the first time someone has had the energy and courage to stage a canoeing race in a social format that has become so popular in mountain biking and trail running, where all the athletes and their families stay together in a race village,” says Kime.

“The only event that comes close to this is the Fish because everyone stays in Cradock, but they are spread out all over town. At the Push And Pull Paddle we will all be staying in a race village for the first time, which will be awesome,” he added.

“The best thing about canoeing is the people,” he went on to say. “ So to be sharing a race village with the people that make up the paddling community is something that I am really looking forward to.”

Kime is now based in Stellenbosch working as an engineer and also embarking on an adventure tourism venture with another paddler Shaun Rubenstein. He says he is aware of how strong the men’s field is shaping up to be for the race.

“Look I am getting back into my paddling now, so a top five finish would be good for me,” he said.

Kime will line up alongside elite stars like Berg champion Graeme Solomon, world champion Andy Birkett, Simon van Gysen, Andrew Houston and a gaggle of young rising stars including Bartho Visser, Mark Keeling, Anders Hart and Zach Preyser.
