Big rains juice up Alfie Cox Invitational course

The first ever Alfie Cox Invitational takes place at Henderson Farm in Umzumbe on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Saturday 2 April and will see some of the country's best enduro motorcycle riders fight it out for the title.

Umzumbe – The heavy rains experienced along the KwaZulu-Natal coast in recent days have created an even bigger challenge for the 40–strong field of riders for this weekend’s Alfie Cox Invitational – creating a number of additional obstacles on top of the technical ones set out by the course designers.

The rainfall, a welcome relief for the drought-stricken coastline, will add another dimension to the spectator-friendly hard enduro sprint course

“The course is pretty sheltered but if we have rain like we had recently, it will add to the excitement levels and make for a great day of racing," mentioned course builder and motorcyle legend Alfie Cox. “A mixture of humidity, muddy and sloshy terrain will test each and every rider!"

The venue at the Henderson farm provided course designers with the perfect terrain to create a testing enduro course.

“The thinking was that the Henderson’s have such an array of vast open land and some natural track that could make it extreme to hold an enduro event of this calibre.

“I had no hesitation in wanting to have the event there as it is the perfect course to test SA’s best,” Cox mentioned.
