year-end holiday festivities
Durban – The fifth edition of the STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure takes place
at the picturesque Summerveld Estate and surrounding Shongweni region on
Sunday 4 December and the popular mountain biking and trail running event
promises to be the perfect year-end trail adventure hit-out aimed at the
As many look to unwind at the end of another long year and ease into the
festive season, the Sharks Trail Adventure’s versatile programme – which
consists of 40km, 20km, 10km Family Ride and 2km Sharkie Ride events as
well as 18km and 9km trail running options – ensures that the event caters
for athletes of all abilities.
Pristine purpose-cut and natural trails, breath-taking views, beautiful
scenery, river crossings and a vibrant festive season atmosphere have
become synonymous with this event, which is the last off-road exploration
for 2016 for many athletes.
After crossing the finish line and successfully conquering the day’s
various trail activities, participants can look forward to joining their
supporters, friends and family for the rest of the event’s many
entertainment and lifestyle offerings.
The attendance of the full Cell C Sharks squad – who will be manning the
trail events’ various water tables and handing out finishers medals before
signing autographs, mingling with fans and posing for photographs – gives
Sharks supporters a rare opportunity to come shoulder-to-shoulder with
their rugby heroes.
The popular mascot Sharkie will also be there on the day and will even
accompany the next generation of cycling stars on their mid-morning 2km
Sharkie Kids Ride while also sure to be the cause of much his trademark
mischief during the course of the day.
An exclusive Sunday staging of the renowned Shongweni Farmers Market, set
against the magnificent backdrop of the Summerveld Estate, is another of
the Sharks Trail Adventure’s many attractions with participants,
spectators and members of the community welcome to explore the huge
variety of stallholders offerings.
Numerous artisan food and beverage stalls will keep visitors well fed and
watered as they browse local crafters’ various handmade crafts and
Christmas offerings while soaking up the easy-listening strummings of some
of the province’s top musical talent.
Once the race village’s attractions have all been discovered, attendees
are encouraged to enjoy the rest of the day by laying out a blanket in the
cool shade of Summerveld’s age-old trees, unpack a picnic lunch or light
up a braai, and ease into the festive season with family and friends.
A Silverback Stride 20, courtesy of Cyclesphere Cycling, and various other
giveaways will be up for grabs on the day as well.
