PRIORITY : HIGH - Protests force changes to aQuellé Tour Durban cycle races

Durban - Protest action on the M19 freeway has forced the organisers of the aQuellé Tour Durban presented by Bridge Fund Managers on Sunday 28 April to alter the course of the 100km classic, and adjust the subsequent start times for the 55km and 45km races.

The 100km road race will now be held over two laps of the M4 Freeway leg from Moses Mabhida Stadium to the Umdloti turning circle and back. This will alter the race distance to approximately 90km.

The race organising committee said in an official statement that the decision to remove the sectors of the race affected by the credible information of likely protest action was in the interest of every cyclist's safety, and that they had easily transitioned to the pre-agreed B Route option.

SMSs have been sent to all riders advising them of changes to their start times.

The revised start times are now:
6:15am 100km Elite, U23  and Juniors
6:20am 100km Vet Men 30-39 and 40-49
6:25am 100km Vet Men 50-35 and 60+
