Cape Town Cycle Tour champ eyes aQuellé Tour Durban scalp

Durban - After taking Travis Barrett to the line to win the 2020 Cape Town Cycle Tour on the weekend, Team Office Guru Under 23 has confirmed their full six-rider team will be on the start line to contest the aQuellé Tour Durban on Sunday 26 April, as part of a bold plan to try and win all four major South African classics in succession.

With victories in the 947 Cycle Challenge and the Cape Town Cycle Tour under the team’s belt, team manager Jamie Taylor wants to add the aQuellé Tour Durban and Tsogo Sun Amashova scalps to their impressive record this season.

“There is no reason why that can’t be done,” Taylor said. “Those four events are the monument events in South African road racing. To win all of them is a goal, and it is one that we believe is attainable.

“Confidence in the team is really high after winning in Cape Town on the weekend,” he mentioned, adding that it was the overall way that his young team had managed the challenges throughout the race that had impressed him.

“We are not a team that wants to win the sprint.” he said. “We are seeing some special talent emerge from the team and we can call on strengths in just about every aspect of a race.”

“Durban will be harder and hillier, which I definitely think will suit the team,” he added.

The Johannesburg-based Team Office Guru will start the aQuellé Tour Durban with
Travis Barrett, Ryan Terry, Dylan Girdlestone, JP Lloyd, Alex Worsdale and Andrew Edwards, a rider who is fast developing a reputation as a formidable climber.

The team has now set its sights on the African Continental Road Championships in Mauritius in the latter part of March before returning for a few domestic races in the build-up to the aQuellé Tour Durban.

“It’s a great race for us because it is close. We can travel down from Gauteng, race and be back, all inside twenty four hours,” said Taylor.

Entries for the road race are now open at http://www.cycleevents.co.za/road-events/aquelle-tour-durban-2020/ and the new MTB races can be entered at http://www.cycleevents.co.za/mtb-events/aquelle-tour-durban-mtb-challenge-2020/
