Botha takes over as KNCC chairman

Pietermaritzburg - After a successful stint as the head of the Dusi Canoe Marathon organising committee between 2018 and 2019, Steve Botha has been elected as the new chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal Canoe Club.

As a keen paddler and member of KNCC, Botha has come in as the new chairman, however he says he isn't going to make wholesale changes to the iconic canoe club based at Camps Drift.

"I am a passionate member of the KwaZulu-Natal Canoe Club and I've come into this role to make sure that the club continues to succeed," Botha said.

"I've organised a Marathon World Championships and two Dusi's, so I want to use that experience to help in assisting the organisers of the Dusi in 2023.

"The Dusi is a crucial part of what we do as a club and it's vital that we put on the best possible version of the event."

Botha's tenure as the chairman of one of the country's premier canoe clubs will run for a year and his focus will be geared mainly towards the 2023 Dusi.

"We have got a great team at the helm of the Dusi in Brad Glasspoole, Ian McDonald and Mike Coetzer who have all been involved in the race for many years.

"They are a strong team and I will help out wherever I can and we're looking forward to another exciting edition of the Dusi in February next year.

"My primary contribution to the club is to make sure that the Dusi is a success, and we are putting in place the building blocks to make sure that it's going to be a fantastic race," an optimistic Botha added.

Entries for the Dusi 2023 will open in due course and updated information will be available at www.dusi.co.za.
